I have sent out this information to so many of my clients – for RuckinRugby too – that I thought I should just put the info in a post, and here it is. Every client of The Pig Farmer and RuckinRugby gets access to standard email functionality and accounts using their own domain name. This is vastly more professional than using hotmail or gmail and I’m frankly shocked to see people still placing newspaper ads for their company using these generic accounts.

For those who cannot bear to ‘change’ how they email, at least just set up a forwarding account – so that any emails to your.name@yourdomain.com get forwarded to your.name@hotmail.com. It’s a start. The disadvantage being, that once you reply to any emails – they will receive the message from your ‘hotmail’ account … not very professional.

Ok – lecture over. You can setup your iPhone or iPad to receive mail from one of your mailboxes as follows:

Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account > Other > Add Mail Account On the next screen enter the following settings:

Name: Your name as you would like recipients to see it (eg John Maxwell work)
Address: The email address for the mailbox you want to setup (eg John.Maxwell@thepigfarmer.com)
Password: The password for the mailbox
Description: Your own description for the mailbox (eg Max’s work email)

Press Save

On the next screen, leave IMAP selected at the top and enter the following settings, I will use ‘thepigfarmer.com’ as an example, but insert your own domain name.

Incoming Mail Server
Host Name: mail.thepigfarmer.com
User Name: The email address for the mailbox you want to setup
Password: The password for the mailbox (should already be filled in)

Outgoing Mail Server
SMTP: mail.thepigfarmer.com
User Name: The email address for the mailbox you want to setup
Password: The password for the mailbox

Press Save

You will then get a message saying “Cannot Connect Using SSL. Do you want to try setting up the account without SSL?”, press Yes.

It should then connect to the mail server and the account will be setup.

If you are having problems with sending mail, you may need to change the port for the SMTP server. You can do this by going to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar > Select the mail account > SMTP > Primary Server > Server Port and changing this to 587.

Remember – once I have set you up with an email account, you can also login from anywhere at www.outitgoes.com to use our webmail facility. If you get a lot of large emails that you need to keep, then you may need to upgrade. You can do this easily in 2GB increments for a small monthly fee.
